Daniel Munroe Forney (1784-1847), the son of Peter and Nancy Abernathy Forney, entered the University as a junior in 1804 but did not receive a degree. He was a member of the Dialectic Society. During the War of 1812 he served with the Second Regiment of Artillery, then became a planter. He was elected to the US House of Representatives in 1815 but resigned in 1818. He also served in the NC Senate (1823-27) and was elected to two successive terms on the NC Council of State. In 1834, evidently persuaded by his wife Harriett Brevard, he moved to Lowndes County, AL, where eventually he died of a "chronic disease" and was buried at Ingleside, his plantation (Dictionary of North Carolina Biography 2:221).
